For Marissa Cofield, building personal connections with the scholars she works with is the key to their ability to achieve. Understanding what they need enables her to help them stay focused on their academic work. She appreciates that IDEA is dedicated to the success of each and every scholar, providing multiple avenues for scholars to pursue, from computer science and carpentry to music production and child development. 

 

Before coming to IDEA in 2022, Ms. Cofield was a personal tutor for children from preschool to 7th grade. She is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology.

 

Her biggest achievement and biggest challenge is being a mother to nine children while going to school and working. Ms. Cofield’s family also includes three dogs and one horse. She loves staying busy and she finds plenty to be busy with, but her family is her number one priority. Her favorite thing to do is love riding horses with her children and other family members.
