Credit Recovery

IDEA Public Charter School accepts credit recovery and acquisition credits (inclusive of CTE credentialing) for scholars who have completed the course, but did not earn a passing grade. Credit bearing institutions include:

  • IDEA summer school
  • DCPS summer school
  • Summer school offered locally by an accredited institution (e.g., Friendship Public Schools, KIPP, SEED School)
  • Nationally accredited credit recovery and acquisition programs: Any course available in the course catalog of any approved credit recovery and acquisition program can be used to meet graduation requirements. An IDEA administrator will review the course and make a final determination on how the course will be applied to the graduation requirement.

Scholars seeking credit recovery and acquisition must be enrolled in a course that corresponds to IDEA's course and graduation requirements. It is the scholar’s responsibility to enroll in the appropriate courses at an approved institution. Scholars must seek approval from the principal and/or academic counselor before enrolling in any courses outside of IDEA to ensure that the course meets the school’s credit transfer requirements and graduation criteria.

Scholars in grades 9 to 11 must be currently enrolled to participate in credit recovery and acquisition. A transcript evaluation along with any additional documentation deemed appropriate by the local education agency (LEA) will be completed to make a final determination on eligibility and participation.

Concurrent enrollment in credit recovery and acquisition courses and traditional courses is allowed for scholars in grade 12 as a means of graduating on time. Eligible scholars who elect to participate in concurrent enrollment must maintain satisfactory attendance and grades in the traditional course, as determined by the LEA. IDEA scholars also have access to intervention support for all core subjects.

To earn recovery and acquisition credit, scholars must successfully complete a course with a C- or better or the numeric equivalent of a 70% or higher.
