COVID-19 Testing at IDEA

Beginning in February 2021, IDEA has partnered with Curative to offer free, accessible COVID-19 testing to anyone in the IDEA community.

Curative testing takes place in a safe kiosk where individuals administer the test to themselves with a mouth swab. Testing is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. Appointments are available through Curative's website. Test results are typically available within 24-48 hours.

The test is free, whether or not an individual has health insurance.
IDEA's Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

On March 23, 2020 the IDEA school building closed, based on public health guidance, to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Classes continued online using laptops provided by IDEA through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Standardized testing scheduled for spring 2020 was canceled.

In 2021, IDEA has opened our building on a limited basis for scholars needing particular academic support and for some CTE classes. Our Reopening Committee meets regularly to discuss future plans and safety procedures. IDEA does not follow DCPS' opening schedule.

IDEA continued to distribute free meals to students after the building closed and throughout the summer. Families could also pick up produce bags weekly from the school or from the IDEA shuttle bus, which made stops throughout the community each week. Meal distribution has continued during school year 2020-2021. Food is also available at other sites around DC.

Our clinical support and special education staff continue to work with scholars and families in need of services throughout the pandemic.
