Meet Heidi Simonsen

Ms. Simonsen teaches 10th grade geometry at IDEA Public Charter School, where she gets to work with and learn from amazing people and students. She also has had the privilege of teaching seniors through Senior Seminar, a class to bridge the transition from high school to college and career.

She has taught in New York City; Chengdu, China; and at summer camps around the United States. In all these experiences, she consistently built a community of learners, parents, and educators. Together, they overcame challenges that led to her growth as an educator in teaching, writing curriculum, organizing events, and growing in creativity and flexibility.

Ms. Simonsen has a master’s degree from George Washington University in international education with a concentration in art therapy. She graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a dual major in mathematics and secondary education. After arriving in Washington, DC, Ms. Simonsen pursued further education in counseling, understanding that deeper self-study and strengthening relationships with others are intertwined with learning and thriving.

Ms. Simonsen currently lives in a vibrant community in DC, where she loves to explore, be outdoors, and be involved with her church as well as spend time with people she loves and find the best bubble tea. Her journey continues.
