TAG Labs Teaches Web Development Skills through Video Games

Fifteen IDEA scholars spent their Wednesday afternoons this school year learning computer programming by designing video games. Through a partnership with TAG Labs ht scholars gained essential technology skills for 21stcentury careers while having fun.

TAG Labs, which has brought STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) programming to several DC schools over the past five years, also set up visual reality (VR) stations for scholars to explore at IDEA’s recent STEM Expo.

“The skills students are learning with TAG Labs they can apply to creating any type of web applications,” explained TAG Labs President Kreston Shirley. “During the process of creating a virtual reality environment, they’re using HTML and  JavaScript, how to add audio, and a variety of other skills required in web development. Students are really enjoying the work.”
