The 10th grade team planned a day for scholars to “take a walk through the PARCC” on Monday, May 8 to get motivated for the PARCC exam that begins May 9. Activities included a pep rally featuring inspirational music videos written and produced by scholars, achievement-focused cheers by the IDEA cheerleaders, and a test taking parody presented by teachers about what to do and what not to do during testing.
After the pep rally, IDEA staff and 10th grade scholars enjoyed grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and followed by team building games and activities. “The idea is to cultivate a positive attitude surrounding these high stakes and incredibly rigorous exams,” explained 10th grade English teacher Natalie Hinds. “In celebrating students, we encourage them to recognize their skills and their potential and we want to motivate them to strive for their very best, using all the tools and skills we've taught them over the course of this school year.”
