In honor of National Poetry Month in April, the English Department organized the first inaugural "Poecella," a celebration of poetry, spoken and in song. The event featured author and poet Brandi Forte, a DC resident, founder of a community-based organization, and a graduate of Howard University.
Five IDEA scholars offered performances, offering spoken word poetry, rap, and song:
This first Poecella was a huge success," noted Lauren Norfleet, English Department chair. "We appreciate all the hard work IDEA staff and faculty put in to make this event successful. We also want to give a big Timberwolf roar to our scholar performers for sharing their creativity with us."
