The four IDEA scholars completed pre-apprenticeships with the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) this year. They will begin four-year apprenticeships in electrical work with IEC Chesapeake member companies as early as this summer. When they have completed their apprenticeships, they will earn electrician's licenses.
They will attend classes one evening each week while receiving on-the-job training during the day. As apprentices, they can expect to earn between $17 and $20 per hour with benefits and receive pay increases as they progress through the program.
The four young men were featured on a Channel 9 news story on Thursday, signing contracts and receiving plaques. Watch for Principal McCrae too.
Please wish these scholars success and happiness in their new careers!
