A Message from Principal McCrae

Despite the challenges this year has brought, we at IDEA still have much to be thankful for. We are so thankful for the steadfast efforts of our scholars, families, and staff who continue to work and support each other creatively, collaboratively, and diligently in this virtual environment.

IDEA and Educare Will Open New On-Site Early Childhood Education Center

We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Educare DC to create an early childhood education center on our campus, which will provide critically needed high-quality child care in our community while offering hands-on learning opportunities for our scholars studying child development. IDEA scholars will have access to expert training and mentoring by Educare teachers and a pathway to employment upon graduation. Student-parents and staff will have an accessible, reliable source of child care. Families will benefit from Educare DC’s comprehensive health and family services and be confident that their children are learning and growing in a safe and nurturing environment. The target date for opening the center is April 1, 2021. You can learn more about this exciting collaboration here

November Is College Awareness Month

It’s never too early to start thinking about life after high school, and this month we are emphasizing college awareness for all scholars. Here are some of the activities on tap:

  • Alma mater showcase on November 19 where faculty share their own college experiences with scholars
  • Virtual college visits
  • Town Hall tutorial for families on financial aid forms
  • Weekly college conversations

Several of our seniors have already received acceptance letters to great schools including North Carolina A&T, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Wingate University.

Congratulations to Our Urban Alliance Interns

Eighteen IDEA seniors were accepted into the Urban Alliance paid internship program this year. In the first semester, interns participate in pre-employment job skills training and plan for life after high school. During the second semester they will be placed with DC-based organizations, companies, and agencies for internships. Congratulations to Moet Dupree, Tykirah Ellis, Darius Franks, Taniya Gaddis, Marquise Goldsberry, Zechariah Hood, Lamia Jenkins, Denzel Kerns, Iyanna Lee, Khiya Martin, Trejure Mclean, Calandra Queen, Amillian Richardson, Deontae Roach, Francisco San Roman, Aniya Simpson, J’lin Small, and Elizabeth Threatt on this achievement.

Thanks to Everyone for Participating In Our Fall Festival

We enjoyed a beautiful day on the IDEA grounds, with outdoor games, a petting zoo, a pop-up roller rink in the gym, delicious food, and most importantly the opportunity for the IDEA community to get together in person to have fun. Check out photos from the Fall Festival here.

Cheer for Our eSports Teams!

Although traditional sports are on hold due to the pandemic, IDEA’s eSports team is going strong. The team competes twice a week--on Tuesdays in the League of Legends and on Thursdays in the Rocket League. Get in on the action on our Twitch channel

There will be no school November 25, 26, and 27 so all of us can enjoy the Thanksgiving break. We wish you the best during this season of thanks.
