Ward 8 Woods works to improve the health, beauty and public enjoyment of the more than 500 acres of forested parkland in Ward 8. The organization’s executive director Nathan Harrington welcomes volunteers to complement the efforts of his paid crew, all of whom work to remove trash and invasive species from the woods.
Volunteers are welcome the first and second Saturdays of the month. Because of safety guidelines during the pandemic, events are currently limited to 10 participants. Volunteers must register in advance online.
Clean-up events take place at Fort Stanton Park and Shepherd parkway. Click on the links below to learn more about the activity, including when and where to meet and what to wear and what to bring, and to register.
Mr. Harrington will provide student volunteers with written documentation of volunteer hours, which are required for high school graduation in the District of Columbia. To learn more, visit http://www.ward8woods.org.
