Scholars Embark on a Civil Rights Trip through the South

Six IDEA scholars, accompanied by Head of School Justin Rydstrom and Resource Coordinator Taylor Ray, joined scholars and staff from Thurgood Marshall Academy on a nine-day civil rights tour of the American South, departing on February 12.

Tykirah Ellis, Trejure McLean, Jalen Gross, Blessen Denney, Angel Cheeks, and Christiane Jackson will travel with the group through Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, visiting historical sites, meeting with locals and historians, visiting the newly built National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and touring colleges. The trip begins in New Orleans and ends in Atlanta.

"This is a wonderful opportunity that we are so thrilled to offer our scholars!" said Ms. Ray. Stay tuned for updates about our scholars journey through history and the present.
