To strengthen the financial literacy of DC residents, the University of the District of Columbia Community College is sending faculty to teach a three-credit Personal Finance course at several DC charter high schools this fall. IDEA, along with Cesar Chavez Parkside, Maya Angelou, SEED, and LAYC Career Academy, will offer this college-level class to scholars at no cost to scholars or families.
This dual enrollment opportunity is part of a UDC-CC pilot project sponsored by Guardian Life. The grant enabled UDC-CC to offer Personal Finance last spring at Academy of Hope, Carlos Rosario Sonia Gutierrez campus, Friendship Tech Prep, and The Next Step.
While we have supported IDEA scholars taking classes at UDC-CC for several years, this semester is the first time UDC-CC faculty will be teaching a class on IDEA’s campus. Professor Albert Pearsall will be teaching the course on Wednesdays at IDEA. Interested scholars should see IDEA Director of Career and Technical Education Andrea Zimmermann for details.
