Congratulations to IDEA alumni Makiya Johnson, Malaysia Johnson, Kajah Watkins, and Kinnidy Williams, who participated in the Urban Alliance Annual Public Speaking Challenge on August 1, along with 150 Urban Alliance interns from the DC area.
The event gave interns the opportunity to share the skills and insights they gained during the internships they completed during the 2018-2019 school year. Makiya chose to intern at Educare, a DC child development center, to build on what she had learned through child development classes at IDEA. Her internship enabled Makiya to fulfill the Child Development Associate requirement of 480 hours of hands-on experience working with kids. Makiya aspires to be a pediatrician.
Malaysia spoke about her work at the George Washington University Hospital, where she helped the hospital transition to a new scheduling system, interviewed prospective volunteers, and designed a communications board for volunteers who speak different languages. Malaysia said her internship helped her become more confident and get a better understanding of what full-time work is like.
Kajah discussed her time at Vox Media and Kinnidy described her work with the Latin American Youth Center.
IDEA is proud of our Urban Alliance interns and their hard work which will help them chart a path to a successful future!
