Mrs. Sharpe began her academic career at Frostburg State University. While a student there, she interned in a classroom with children who had severe and profound disabilities, which inspired her to explore a career in special education. While working with those students, she learned nontraditional ways to communicate and connect with them. Mrs. Sharpe pursued her master's degree in special education at Coppin State University while working for Sylvan Learning, which helped her understand families' challenges finding appropriate educational services for their children. Mrs. Sharpe came to IDEA in 2006 as a special education teacher, and later transitioned to data manager and then academic counselor.
