A Boston native, Jennifer Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s (MS) and specialist degrees (Psy.S.) in school psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She was originally planning on pursuing a clinical psychology degree until graduate school, when she learned about the field of school psychology and realized it bridged her interests in psychology and children. Mrs. Smith worked in both Broward County Public Schools and Miami Dade Public Schools while living in the south. When her family relocated to Maryland, Mrs. Smith came to work at IDEA primarily because of the staff’s ideology and passion showed for their scholars and school. Mrs. Smith finds her work challenging, yet fulfilling, and enjoys the process of helping scholars learn more about themselves and finding ways to assist them increase their chances of success both personally and academically. During her personal time, Mrs. Smith enjoys being a mom to her three-year old daughter and spending time with her family.
