Melody Washington believes that growth is necessary. Mrs. Washington began her academic career by earning her bachelor's degree in psychology from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1993. In order to ensure her desire to become a therapist, Mrs. Washington decided to enter the workforce as a resident advisor at Covenant House NY prior to pursing her master’s degree. This was a wonderful and fulfilling experience which solidified her desire to become a therapist. Mrs. Washington then earned her master's degree in social work from the City University of New York – Hunter College School of Social Work in 1996. While earning her advanced degree, Mrs. Washington juggled many responsibilities including getting married, a pregnancy, an internship, and working full-time.  If not for the support of her husband, parents, in-laws, and friends, timely graduation would have been very difficult.  Mrs. Washington believes the ability to manage many tasks at one time leads to a skill perfected over time. Her past has shaped her present advancement.
