IDEA is currently running a pilot program: Assignment BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) for scholars who need to catch up on missed work. Scholars who have a 79% or less in any class are permitted to attend. Assignment BOGO will enable up to 25 scholars to attend one of two afternoons per month, in person at IDEA, where they can work to obtain credit for up to three missing assignments. In the pilot phase, Assignment BOGO will be available only for English classes.
IDEA teachers will compile a list of required assignments and those that students can be exempted from. For each required assignment that a scholar completes, they can skip an exempted assignment, with a limit of three per month.
Assignment BOGO sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday each month from 2pm to 4pm. Teachers will be available to help scholars with their work. All COVID-19 health and safety guidelines remain in place at IDEA. Participating scholars will be required to go through a health screening, wear masks while in the building, and follow social distancing protocols.
Scholars will be able to make up assignments such as independent practice tasks, group discussions, portfolio reflections, quizzes, and tests. They must make up an assignment in the same category as the one they missed.
Assignment BOGO was created because scholars have requested more opportunities to work one-on-one with adults, which are few and far between in the virtual school environment. Staying motivated to complete work in English class, which is typically self-directed and self-paced, can be especially challenging when you’re not in a physical classroom with teachers, peers, and visual cues to remind scholars of deadlines.
Scholars can sign up for BOGO sessions here.
