Engineering Eco-friendly Consumer Products to Save Animals and Oceans

Scholars in Ms. Mars Williams' science class learned about the surprising amount of time it takes various materials to break down once they're thrown away, and what is and is not actually biodegradable. Then they set to work trying to create an eco-friendly container for a six-pack of cans. Students designed and built a six-can harmless holder using various materials (cardboard, sticks, string, and tape) that is animal-safe, sturdy, convenient, and easy to carry. This lesson both promoted awareness of reducing, reusing, and recycling, and challenged scholars to sharpen their engineering skills.
