Every Wednesday, scholars in environmental science classes at IDEA are measuring air quality and learning how our air affects public health, as part of the Our Air, Your Future: Creating Clean Air Advocates project. Science teachers Gabrielle Ciarcia and Joy Harper are leading the project at IDEA.
Our Air, Your Future was created by Fairfax County Public Schools science teacher Elizabeth Spike, and is being implemented at high schools across the DC area. In the spring, scholars will come together to present and discuss their solutions for air quality improvement with local government, business, nonprofit leaders.
This innovative year-long project will teach skills such as how to use portable air monitors; how to graph, analyze, and evaluate results; and how to think critically, solve problems, collaborate, and communicate strategies for improving air quality.
Stay tuned to learn more about what our scholars are finding out about air quality in our community.
