Community Service

Community service is an essential element in IDEA's academic program. It strengthens character, promotes empathy, builds leadership skills, and instills the value of serving others. All scholars must complete a required number of community service hours in order to graduate.

Students are required to complete 100 hours of community service to meet graduation requirements set forth by the District of Columbia. Community service must be documented annually by April 15. IDEA guides students to complete 25 hours each academic year to ensure that all 100 community service hours are performed by the end of senior year to meet requirements for graduation. Various programs at IDEA will periodically arrange for community service projects for students.

If you are a scholar and you need help finding community service activities, please contact Academic Counselor Lisa Garcia

To verify community service hours, scholars must fill out the Community Service Hours form, have it signed by someone from the organization where they are volunteering, and give the completed form to Dean of Culture Lori Briscoe.
