Our Academy of Construction and Design students visited Calleva Farm in Maryland yesterday and had a blast. Students interacted with goats, chickens, pigs, and rabbits. They inspected how each animal was rotated through fields and how their excrement fertilized food for the next animal or agricultural crop.
They also got to test compost; plant watermelons; harvest strawberries, snap peas, and spinach, which became part of our lunch.
They collected eggs, went on a hayride tour of the farm, and constructed beehive stands in record time, utilizing their skills in construction. Their comfort level on the farm grew with each activity and they learned a lot!
